Taxus baccata ‘Fastigiata Robusta’ – Elegant Structure with Wildlife Value

Description

Taxus baccata ‘Fastigiata Robusta’ is a beautifully upright form of our native English yew, valued for its deep evergreen foliage and strong architectural shape. With its narrow, column-like growth, it brings year-round structure to gardens of all sizes – perfect for adding height, shelter, and a sense of calm permanence.

Yew is one of the most important evergreen species for UK wildlife. Its dense growth provides exceptional nesting cover for birds, winter shelter for insects, and a safe haven in colder months when much of the garden has died back. Mature yews can also support a wide range of invertebrate life, making them a true long-term habitat tree.

‘Fastigiata Robusta’ is ideal for wildlife-friendly screening, formal accents, or planting as a living pillar within mixed borders. It is slow-growing, extremely hardy, and tolerant of pruning, meaning it can be shaped or left to develop naturally over time.

Yew thrives in well-drained soil and will grow in both sun and partial shade, making it a wonderfully versatile evergreen for British gardens.
