Summer Snowflake Bulbs (Leucojum aestivum) – UK Native, Peat-Free, Wildlife-Friendly

Description

Often mistaken for a giant snowdrop, the Summer Snowflake (Leucojum aestivum) is a beautiful and UK native bulb that blooms later in the season – April to May – bringing a welcome drift of nodding white flowers with green-tipped petals to damper corners of the garden.

Naturally found in wet meadows, riverbanks and woodland edges, it thrives best in moist, humus-rich soil and is especially happy near ponds, ditches or rain gardens. Unlike its spring cousin, this is a taller, more statuesque plant that provides valuable nectar and shelter to pollinators and early insects.

Our bulbs are grown without peat or pesticides, helping to protect the soil and water life from source to stream.

Joel says:

“The Summer Snowflake is a gentle giant. It’s perfect for those damper wildlife gardens where you want elegance without formality – I love it around the edge of a pond or in that tricky, moisture-holding shade.”
