1400 Longsword

This type 15A longsword or Bastard sword ran from around 1350-1450 (14thC to 15thC). Features a long tapering blade with straight edges coming to an acute point and featuring a diamond cross section. These powerful swords were very much at the transition of leaving attacks against mail in the past and looking thoroughly towards plate of the future. So it is excellent at thrusting and cutting and delivers powerful cuts.

Features both a pommel and crossguard that are typical of the period. The blade starts at 7mm thick with a point of balance of 95mm from the guard and a centre of percussion 53cm from the guard, again making it a powerful and long-reaching weapon.

Sword features a brown cord bound leather grip. A beautifully decorated wood cored leather scabbard with period appropriate chape and harness.

For size reference, Tod is 5’9″.

The scabbard can be re-rigged to be left handed but because of the work involved there will be an additional charge of £30 payable before shipping.

Edge sharpness

Semi-Sharp is ‘butter knife sharp’; it has a very fine flat on the edge. Sharp has been ground to give a reasonable cutting edge, but final honing, if required, is by the customer.
