Coltsfoot – Wildlife-Friendly Native (Peat-Free Super Plugs & 9cm Pots)

Description

Coltsfoot (Tussilago farfara) is one of the first native wildflowers to bloom each year, with bright yellow dandelion-like flowers that appear well before its leaves. This early burst of colour is a vital nectar source for awakening bees, hoverflies, and even queen bumblebees emerging from hibernation.

Often seen on rough ground, railway embankments, or poor soils, Coltsfoot thrives in the places most plants avoid – making it a brilliant pioneer species for difficult, compacted, or recovering ground. Its name comes from the hoof-shaped leaves that emerge after flowering, providing natural cover later in the season.

Joel says…
“Coltsfoot is one of those wildflowers that really earns its place – especially in spring. It’s a life-saver for early pollinators and a champion of rough soils. Plus, it looks cheerful and unfussy, which is exactly what a wildlife garden needs. And of course – peat-free, like all the best plants.”

Why Choose Peat-Free?

Our Coltsfoot is grown using completely peat-free compost in both 9cm pots and Super Plugs. Supporting peat-free helps protect the UK’s unique peat bogs – irreplaceable habitats for rare insects, birds, mosses, and clean water systems.

Available in:
• 9cm Pots – sold individually
• Peat-Free Super Plugs – available in 8, 16, 32, or 48-packs
