Description

All the airy charm of wild Ragged Robin, but with clean white, finely cut petals that dance above fresh green foliage. This cultivar of a UK-native thrives in damp soil at the pond collar or bog garden (it isn’t a submerged plant), flowering from late spring into early summer with a graceful, meadow look. Expect around 40-60 cm in bloom with a light, clump-forming habit that sits beautifully in front of taller marginals or woven through damp meadow-style plantings. The open, frilly flowers are readily used by bees and other small pollinators, while the leafy clump provides gentle edge cover where wildlife moves between water and land.

Where it thrives

  • Light: Full sun to light/partial shade (best flowering with good light)

  • Moisture/Zone: Pond collar / bog in consistently moist to wet soil; keep the crown just above water level (do not submerge)

  • Setting: Damp borders, naturalised meadow edges, gravelly pond rims; pair with Marsh Marigold, Water Mint, sedges for layered habitat

Planting & care

  • Plant in peat-free bog/pond-edge compost or moisture-retentive soil; mulch to hold moisture

  • Deadhead lightly to prolong bloom; or allow a few stems to set seed for a natural look

  • Divide clumps every 2-3 years in spring to refresh and spread plants

  • Keep soil evenly moist in summer dry spells to protect foliage and flowering

Safety (important & honest):
Grown for ornament/habitat. Do not ingest. Wash hands after gardening. Keep plant material and soil out of natural watercourses; never release garden plants into the wild.

Truth-first wildlife note:
Single, cut-petal flowers provide accessible nectar/pollen to small bees and other beneficial insects during a late spring-early summer gap. Combine with early and late native bloomers to keep forage continuous while the clump supplies low edge cover for amphibians and invertebrates.

Joel says…
“White Ragged Robin gives that meadow sparkle without shouting – light, lacy, and perfect for damp edges. Keep it moist, trim after the main show, and let a few seeds find their way.”

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are ordering perennials between the months of October and March, including aquatic plants, please be aware that this is the dormant phase for perennials, so your plants may arrive showing potentially little or no top growth at this stage, or can in some cases still have some old leaves from last year showing also. Please don’t worry, as this is all quite normal. Once the weather warms up in spring, you will start to see fresh growth and activity! If you ever have any concerns at all, please just message the team on [email protected] and we’ll always do our best to help.
